Sure hope this is true!  From jayski. Someone posted this to my other list:

"Southern 500 coming back in 2006? ESPN Magazine is
reporting [Dec. 6th page 140] that Labor Day racing
may return to Darlington [Raceway] as early as 2006.
NASCAR were concerned at the negative reaction to the
mothballing of the 54-year-old Southern 500, and that
was before LA [Los Angeles] TV stations bailed on the
race at Fontana, CA [California Speedway, Sept 5th on
NBC], Darlington's replacement, in favor of baseball.
(ESPN Magazine)(12-1-2004)"

If we do get the Labor Day race back at Darlington, it won't be because the fans are unhappy.  That's never mattered before.  It will be because TV bailed on the race.  Everything is about Tv now, not racing, or the fans.

Right on sally. That,s what it,s all about these days is tv and money.

Not about the fans or the racing or the competition.

That's news to me.  Believe it or not, I watched the race last Labor Day, and I don't remember any preemptions for baseball on the local NBC affiliate here.  Maybe it had to do with the coverage on the local sportscasts.
