How local stations responded yesterday to the devastating wildfires in southern California is evidence on how NASCAR fans are treated compared to NFL fans.

For example, at 4 p.m. Pacific time, when NBC4 shifted fire coverage to a digital subchannel and the Internet while it went away to NBC Sunday Night Football.  Earlier in the day, ABC7 did the opposite, moving the Subway 500 to a digital subchannel.  ABC7+ is available only on over-the-air sets with digital tuners and on cable systems.  I receive ABC7 via DirecTV and was therefore shut out (and I'm sure I was not the only one).

Also, CBS2 and Fox 11 also stuck to its scheduled NFL programming.

I don't want to say that NASCAR fans are second-class citizens according to station management, but the evidence presented above is compelling.
