From Jayski:

"TNT's Wide Open Coverage for the Pepsi 400 Propels Network to the Winner's Circle: TNT's debut of Wide Open Coverage for the Pepsi 400 Nextel Cup race at Daytona, a unique television format that featured no national commercial interruptions, took the checkered flag by beating all programming on broadcast and cable for the night, ranking as television's #1 program in Saturday primetime among adults 18-34, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. TNT's Wide Open coverage featured only three local commercial breaks per hour and an innovative on-screen video box for sponsor branded content,. The Pepsi 400 also ranked as ad-supported cable's #1 program for the week among adults 18-49 (3,030,000) and adults 25-54 (3,457,000). It was also #2 for the week behind the TNT original The Closer among viewers (6,162,000) and households (4,242,000). For the week among all of television, TNT's Saturday night Nextel Cup coverage was a Top 10 program among adults 25-54 and men 18-49 and a Top 5 program among men 25-54. TNT concludes its Nextel Cup coverage from Chicagoland Speedway on July 15 at 2:30pm/et.(TNT PR)(7-12-2007)"

Even us old people rated high for this!   Grin

Wonder if this will impress the sponsors that this is the way to go?  And if ESPN and Fox will consider something like this in the futre (if only for special events like the Daytona 500, Coke 600 or Indy)?

For gosh sakes it is a TNT press release, of course it's going to be all good news. Even FOX could find a diamond in a pile of manure for its ratings spin. Lets wait until the official numbers come out and see how the race did overall and how it did compared to last years race.

Unfortunately, exact year-to-year comparisons will be impossible because the race was shifted from broadcast television (Fox) to cable/satellite television (TNT), and cable/satellite is not available in as many homes.

I would be willing to bet that it was the highest-rated race of the season for TNT, by far.

Dick, people our age aren't important to Nascar now.  We are has beens and dispensable.  They don't care if we desert the sport or not.  They want casual fans, not dedicated old codgers like us.   Grin

What do they do about us people who are over 54?  Good question, but apparently we don't count in their survey or ratings poll.... Undecided  Interesting, huh?
