"Fatback" McSwain has been let go as Bobby Labonte's crew chief at Joe Gibbs!  No reason was given.

I read a couple of days ago that he got into it with one of the crew members and it was rumored then and denied.  They want him in the C4C and he isn't making much progress with McSwain so guess they have to make changes.

I also read that Ricky Craven was out of the 32 car effective immediately. Would not surprise me to maybe see Benson or maybe even a Busch regular get into that car.  JMHO

I would love to know the inside story too.  Fox did not show the altercation, so I tend to believe Fatback when he says it did not happen.

In the absence of more facts, we can only speculate that Fatback did something to make J.D. Gibbs and/or Jimmy Makar angry.  Maybe criticism of Tony Stewart?

Jeff Hammond might have given us some insight on Totally NASCAR yesterday, but there was no show because of poker.

Fatback did say that he has already received many calls from other teams (no surprise).

Fatback denied that any altercation had taken place on Windtunnel the other night. Again said that no reason was given to him, but said they parted on good terms.
Seems strange to can the crewchief when you are in the top 10 in the points standings. :?

Brandon Thomas, a 30-year-old former engineer, is the interim crew chief for Joe Gibbs Racing and the #18 team.

With all due respect, what is Gibbs doing throwing a rookie into the game so soon to the start of the Chase?

New possible reason why Fatback was let go: he asked for too much money.  After all, they have millions tied up in B. Labonte and Stewart contracts, and they are launching a new (#11) team.  Maybe everyone on staff is being asked to cut back.

Where do you think Fatback will go?
