By Jenna Fryer of the Associated Press:

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/CAR_NASCAR_CHASE_LOSERS?SITE=GENERIC&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2006-08-30-21-59-38

She tells the real story of how the "other" 33 drivers will be all but forgotten after Richmond.  Typical NA$CAR spin doctor claims otherwise, of course.

Isn't it amazing that it took the media several years to realize soomething that many fans (like all of us here) knew as soon as the new format was announced?  Is the Nascar KoolAid starting to wear off?  And how will Baby Brian and the TV broadcasters feel about being 'outed'?

At least the extended "test sessions" at the end of the year for some of these drivers should bear fruit next year.  It's already happened for J. Gordon and Earnhardt, Jr.

I think Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards will return to contention next year.

IMO, at least 28 of the 33 drivers are forgotten all year long.  We hear about the first 15 because of the maybe in, maybe out of the chase so all they do is add the other 5 to those 28 that are already forgotten after Richmond.  JMO

Good point, Vivian. Several drivers have had a good run or two here and there, and you have to searh hard to find out about it.

Forgot to say this yesterday:

Unless you're a race winner, forget about many mentions in the press or any at all on TV from this point forward.  Everything is focused on the Chase, and that's too bad.
