This week, the IndyCars are racing in Japan.  Qualifying was supposed to take place last night (American time), but it was rained out.  Helio Castroneves was awarded the pole based on "entrant points," which is the equivalent to NASCAR's owner points.

(The IndyCar race is scheduled for tonight, but the telecast on ESPN will be delayed until noon Eastern time tomorrow.)

That leaves me with a question.  Previously, if there was no qualifying, weren't the cars lined up based on practice speeds?

I'm asking Bryan to confirm this information.

It all depends on whether or not practice got in if it did then yes i think they line up by practice speeds if not then i think they would line up by points.
