Benson out, McMurray in at Phoenix Racing
By Dave Rodman, Turner Sports Interactive May 11, 2004
12:14 PM EDT (1614 GMT)

Ten races into the NASCAR Busch Series season, former champion Johnny Benson and James Finch's Phoenix Racing have separated.

A one-line statement Monday afternoon on Benson's web site said "effective immediately" Benson was no longer the driver of the No. 1 Yellow/Miccosukee Dodge.

Tuesday morning, Phoenix named Jamie McMurray as driver of the No. 1 Dodge for Friday night's Funai 250 at Richmond International Raceway.

Breaks my heart again  Sad   and makes me mad.  :x
I just read on Jayski that he is testing the #96 yesterday and today (think that was the days mentioned).
Maybe he will get back in Cup.  He has skill, but seems to always be in the wrong place at the wrong/right time and gets put out of a race so often when it is not his fault.  Wish a really good team and car would pick him up.  He just deserves more and better than he gets, imo.

I agree about Johnny having the worst luck.  He's had some damn good runs in Finch's car in Busch this season.  Most of the bad runs were because of mechanical problems or things not his fault (like Stremme mistaking him for Harvick and taking him out that one week).

On testing for a second team for Cal Wells, I wonder if Finch heard he was doing that and that had something to do with his decision to let him go.  Whatever...but now we have another whacker back in Busch (Jamie).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Wells can get the sponsorshop for the 96 car for JB.

Although I like Jamie, I was once again reminded that a driver does not make the car if luck and good mechanicing is not also thrown in.
I missed Johnny and this showed that it was not necessarily his fault that the car did not finish well.

Guess Hamilton Jr did okay but at this point, I think Johnny could have done just as good.

More and more I think sponsors just want the young know no fear kids.
