(Quote from Monty Python)

The baseball stadium in San Diego, Petco Park, had a brick program that raised money for various charities.

Someone bought one of the bricks, then asked for the following inscription:

"Break out your cold ones.  Toast the Padres.  Enjoy this championship organization."

It looks like standard congratulatory stuff.  But looks can be deceiving.  What is so unusual about it?

Let's see if Vivian gets this one right.  She seems to love puzzles and word games.  However, anyone else can jump in.

OK, no one has gotten it yet.

Here's a hint: Take the first letter in each word and spell it out from there.

Well, nobody even tried. Sad

The correct answer: when the first letters are arranged, they spell out "BOYCOTT PETCO."

You see, the brick was purchased by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which has some kind of beef with Petco, which is the title sponsor of the San Diego stadium.

I must thank someone named Marine Layer, who operates a blog in San Jose, CA, for this information.  I even saw the brick once.  Unfortunately, this was some kind ago and I can't remember where the picture was posted, but here is his site:

(The new park in question is in Oakland, not San Diego, and would be home stadium for the Athletics.)
