Title: 590-letter(!) last name
Post by: Desmond on December 13, 2004, 05:14:02 PM
I would like to know whether or not anyone has a copy of a Guinness Book of World Records from the 1970s, or can obtain one from a library.

One of the records listed was that of a Philadelphia man whose last name, believe it or not, contained 590 letters.  He was also known as "Wolfe+585, Sr."  He also had 26 "first names," one for each letter of the alphabet.  Frankly, I don't know how anyone can go through life with a name like that.

His record was eliminated from Guinness sometime in the 1980s, as editors decided to streamline the book and put more emphasis on celebrities and the bizarre (the latter of which was the basis of a Guinness themed show on Fox).

Too bad, because that record has always fascinated me.

Sorry, Desmond, I can't help you with that.   :(
