Title: Why he's called "Friday Ryan"
Post by: Desmond on November 30, 2004, 11:47:34 PM
I have just compiled the results of qualifying, and assigned the drivers point values similar to those assigned for races.

My unofficial results prove what we have suspected--Ryan Newman blows away the field on qualifying day.

With 32 time trials held this year (four rained out), Newman finished with  a "point total" of 4901, on the strength of nine poles among other things.  Second place was Jeff Gordon, 453 points behind.  This margin is much more than even the 58 points by which Gordon would have won under the old system (I did not reset points after Richmond).

The rest of the "Friday Top Ten," in order: Jimmie Johnson, Elliott Sadler, Jeremy Mayfield, Kasey Kahne, Greg Biffle, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Brian Vickers and Joe Nemechek.

Others included: champion Kurt Busch, 12th; Mark Martin, 13th; Jamie McMurray, 14th; Tony Stewart, 15th; Bobby Labonte, 17th; and Matt Kenseth, 29th.

Strange note: six of the top ten drivers either work for Hendrick or former Hendrick crew chief Ray Evernham, or has a Hendrick engine.

That had to be time consuming to do but it is good info.  I have always liked Ryan and I just love it when he gets the pole.

BTW, how many are qualified for the Bud Shootout in February?  Not that many pole winners this year.  And how do the select others that are in it?

The 2005 Bud Shootout field is as follows: Ryan Newman, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Joe Nemechek, Ricky Rudd, Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne, Jeremy Mayfield, Brian Vickers, Casey Mears, Bobby Labonte, and Kurt Busch.

Also past race winners Dale Earnhardt Jr., Mark Martin, Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace, Bill Elliott and possibly Geoffrey Bodine (who made a few starts this year).

What about Ken Schrader?  I know he won the old Busch Clash several years ago.  Wonder if he is eligible as a part winner or does it only count since they've been calling it the Bud Shootout?

I,ve always wondered what would happen if ryan newman won every budpole in the year. just joking I know he wins a bunch though.

Yes cheryl i believe schrader is eligible for the bud shootout they normally have a drawing the day or 2 before the race for past winners i think schrader got picked  before.

So yes cheryl i do believe that schrader is eligible since he won the busch clash back in 89 and 1990 and almost as well in 93 he gave dale sr. a run for his money that year.

The budshootout is the same race that the busch clash it,s just been renamed and it,s longer than the clash ever was.

I am sorry that I forgot to include Ken Schrader in the list of entries.

Once again, it is in prime time on Fox, Saturday night, February 12, 2005.
