Title: Good Article on ARCA Coverage from the Rock
Post by: Cheryl on April 23, 2009, 06:19:26 PM
I don't agree with all of Matt's observations (i.e., that it was good to see Schrader run the ARCA race or that the Cup races should be shorter); however his points about cutting down the TV coverage to the actual race are SO true!

Today's coverage of the Talldega ARCA race on Speed was a pleasure to watch compared to FOX and ESPN.
By the way, what's wrong with Schrader running ARCA?

For me, it's just an extension of my dislike of more experienced drivers running the Busch Series.  It takes away the ability for up and coming drivers to win a race or score the best equipment.  I like Schrader, just not in ARCA.  I've gotten used to drivers who never won in Cup going to the truck series (Musgrave, Todd Bodine, Skinner, etc), but I didn't really like them there at first.  But they are running the entire season, not just  cherrypicking or just showing up occasionally, but if I think about it too long, I realize they took rides away from drivers from late models, ARCA, USAR, etc.

schrader fields a car full time in the ARCA series. he is competitive. there are drivers in each of the lower series who have chosen to stay where they are. satisfied knowing that they dont have the money or talent to compete at a higher level. schrader's cup rides were lost to younger drivers and eventually with teams that didnt have enough money to compete every week or be competitive. so why not use the money you have to field a car in a series you can be competitive in. the number of drivers who run a full ARCA season is small compared to the big boys. many of the teams are cup development teams.
take venturini motorsports. they have had 3 different drivers in the car so far this season. they are there for the wins only.
championships in the arca series dont carry the clout to get you a big time ride unless it is for a development cup team.
not knocking any one person or series. just a spirited debate
