Title: Sirius Considering Bankruptcy
Post by: alfers on February 11, 2009, 03:16:36 AM
Well Cheryll, looks like all those big bucks they paid to Howard are biting them in the asteroid.  Already in trouble after the smaller fish ate the big fish and now it may bring the whole system down.  Won't that be nice for all the millions of subscribers?

Been a very long time since I posted here.  Sorry if it's not the correct format.

Your format is fine, but I didn't see this post until I replied to your other post.  I haven't seen anything about actual bankrupcy filing, just the part about Ergen buying up a lot of their debt.  From everything I read on the XM forum, the 19 million subscribers are worth quite a bit as an asset, so I doubt they won't be able to refinance their debt.  Also, I've read that they've already refinanced the debt due this month.

But shakey times for subscriber right now for sure.

Edit:  Just found this posted on the XM forum with a quote from an article about this whole thing:

Gee Whizz, people get on line just to talk about Radio? Whatever,...

I may have my reason to cancel at the rate this is going. These hot shot CEOs have some monster egos and will probably do a Baby Brian thing on good ole satellite radio,... >:(

I would hate to see Sirius XM Radio go away, but even if it does, I have faith that someone else will come through and keep the concept of satellite radio going.

More interesting news from the XM fan forum (and yes, Dick, a lot of folks talk about radio on a forum).

Looks like owners of DirecTV and DISH may get into a bidding war over satellite radio now:

Well, if they get rid of "Cousin Brucie" on the 50's on 5 channel, I would consider that to be a good first step.

Works for me to dump Mel!  He's the one who thinks people subscribing to satellite service will be happy with FM-sytle programming and significantly reducing the playlists.  I read that 80s on 8 went from like playing 1200 songs to about 400 since Mel took over XM.  Just absurd!
