Title: We Made It!
Post by: sally on August 27, 2004, 03:11:45 AM
Well, Staci and I finally made it to Boone, in spite of lousy directions from AAAthat had us wandering the back roads with no clue where we were for about an hour.  If anyone thinks road courses don't have a place in Nascar, try speeding down the roads in Wilkes County where Jr Johnson grew up!  Running shine around here is REAL road racing!

We head to the track tomorrow...gonna be a long day.  But who cares!  Remember, keep chanting....NO RAIN....NO RAIN!

Don't worry, Sally, regardless of weather predicitons, anything can happen in that valley where the track is located.  After being there for 5 days, we saw that to be true and heard it from our fellow campers who said the races have never been affected since they've been coming there.

We saw a huge black cloud roll into the campground on Monday afternoon, accompanied by a big blast of wind.  Then, all of a sudden, it was gone and no rain came at all.

Then a few sprinkles there Tuesday afternoon, but nothing more.  We drove to Johnson City for a party at Hooters there and hit a deluge on the way, but nothing much in that town.  So obviously those mountains really affect the storms a lot.  Sometimes they never even make it across them to the track area.

Wednesday, there were preditions of possible rain during the afternoon and evening and we never saw a drop at the track.  Just a lot of sun and humidty.  So, I'm sure things will be just fine for the races tonight and tomorrow.
