Title: "Busch-whackers" banned?
Post by: Desmond on March 22, 2006, 06:14:52 PM
I heard on some web site or other that Fox announcers are no longer allowed to use the word "Busch-whackers" or similar language on the air.  Is that true?  And, if so, is it a way to be sensitive to those who drive only in the Busch Series, or just blatant censorship?

I'd say it's censorship.  Nascar doesn't want an uncomplimentary term applied to one of it's cash cows.

I personally heard the Fox announcers say "we're retiring that term..." during the rain-delay show on Sunday.  Like Sally, I'm sure they were spoken to by either the network executives at Fox or NASCAR (or both).  Don't want to kill the golden goose that's supposedly increasing their ratings because so many Cup drivers are in the race on Sat. now.
