Hi There! My name is Vivian Simons and I live in Southwestern Oregon about 10 miles from California and about 45 miles from the coast. I love the Pacific Ocean with the rock formations and I like the mountains out here. However, some of my best days were spent walking on the beach at Daytona, New Smyrna and Cocoa Beach, Florida. And speaking of Daytona, I attended my first race there in 1961 and became totally hooked on racing. The promoter at the local track in Orlando where I lived at the time talked me into going to work at his track on Friday night and I loved it. From that time on I always went to the 24-hour race, the Busch Clash and the 500. I was even fortunate to be able to get into the pits back then due to my local promoter. I met some of the drivers and at that time I became a fan for life. I lived in Orlando until 1969 when I traveled to California on vacation and decided to move. I settled in the Sacramento Valley and watched auto and bike racing in that area with frequent visits to Calistoga and Chico for both stock car and open wheel races. I met a pretty neat person and got married and lo and behold, he was a local racer. We moved to northern CA and Don continued his racing there. I was a lap counter at the local track. We went back to Daytona on occasion and also caught the racing in Barberville and Lakeland while there. Since moving to Oregon, he stopped racing and most of our watching has been on television and we both enjoy all kinds of racing. I love all Nascar racing and I especially like ASA, Hooters and ARCA. I like the close competition that the trucks seem to have but I don't like Busch when the Cup drivers come in and dominate the races. I don't think it is fair to the regular drivers nor their sponsors, especially when some of the regulars miss the race due to the “Buschwhackers”. I am not a fan of boogity-boogity-boogity, the lucky dog pass nor any of the names they have come up with for the Cup drivers who run the trucks occasionally. I like all dirt bike racing, boat and jetsprint racing, open wheel racing and any thing else that has motors and competition. I will normally choose to watch racing over any other sports although I do enjoy football very much. And speaking of football, I do not want Nascar to become a sport that has a playoff season. I believe that racing involves individual teams who work hard and deserve to race the full season with their big reward coming at the end of the complete 36 race season, not after only the last 10 races. In my opinion, racing cannot be compared to other sports, as it is unique in its competition, tradition and fan base. You can contact me at here. |
